Unexpected compilment

I took a growler of my Munich Helles ( viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4863 ) to a hash run last night. Google hash house harriers. They bill themselves as a drinking club with a running problem. After the run, I pulled the growler out and told folks to help themselves without explaining what exactly it was or that it was homebrew. A couple of the guys already knew. There were the usual compliments as you'd expect. Friends will always compliment your beer because: 1) They're your friends. 2) They want more free beer.

One guy walked over and out of the blue went, "Helles, nice!" It turns out he had recently spent two weeks in Europe and scratched Oktoberfest off his bucket list. He said he had dozens of liters of Helles while there and the time of his life. He said this Helles was real tasty, easy drinking, and couldn't believe a local place was brewing this stuff. He wanted to know where I got the growler so he could pick up a couple himself. I disappointed him when I told him it was homebrew, but I'd bring a growler of Oktoberfest to another hash in a week or so.

That recipe is Chad's 50 pt recipe found somewhere on The Brewing Network forum with only a couple of changes. I believe I changed up the bittering hops and yeast strain. I normally use Magnum with my lagers as well as Wyeast 2206.

It's always nice when you get those reactions out of the blue.

I like it when someone tastes my homebrew for the first time and their eyebrows shoot up in that "Hey, this is good!" reaction.

Nice Pudge! It's great to get a complement, but when they recognize the style, that says a lot.

Nice, Pudge! Always great to be recognized by someone who has no connection to you and is not just being nice just to be nice.

I take zero credit for the recipe. I know little about the style, but really like this beer. It is good to know it seems to be a decent representation of the style.

To this I concur.

But with Pudge I agree. I will not take credit for a recipe I did not make.

Congrats. The hash harriers around here are kind of jerks, so I don't run wit them, but your beer sounds perfect for post running consumption.
