Hello all, new to brewing and will soon be jumping in feet first. I plan on doing 2.5 gallon BIAB. Yes I know, I've read enough to know there will be those that will say why not 5 gallons. I don't drink enough for that and I'd like to be able to try out more brews. I don't have my equipment yet, but I believe I'll be going with the brewdemon for my fermenter. I look forward to learning from everyone and I know I'll enjoy

Welcome aboard! This is a great group. I think you are smart to start with smaller batches. They are easier to handle, boil, and cool. Equipment costs less, you might have a suitable pot in your house now, or find one at a yard sale. Modest batches can be boiled on your stove. In my case, starting small made great sense because my first batches weren't very good. I learned more by brewing 10 small batches than 5 big ones. I still brew 1-2.5 gallon batches for experiments, seasonal beers and such.

There's nothing wrong with small batch brewing, if that's what you want to do. I started with Mr beer and made small batches from kits with prehopped extract for more than two years.

There are a lot of reasons to stick with small batches, so if it works for you, I say go for it.

I started making larger batches when I got away from the kids because it takes about the same amount of time to brew a 5 gallon batch as it does to brew a 2.5 gallon batch and I've got twice as much beer in the end. But I also switched to kegging at about the same time, because I hated bottling that much at one time.

No matter how large or small your batches are, if you're happy with your product, that's #1!
