Help with Beersmith

I updated another computer to W10 and saved my Beersmith recipe folder and when I copy it over to the updated computer, Beersmith does not find them. Nor can I drag and drop them into Beersmith. I've done this before and it worked fine but this time, no.
Ideas to try?

Did you update from Win8 or Win7?

If you upgraded from Win7, revert to your backup.

If you upgraded from Win8, I got nothing.

Hmmm, Here's what I would look for...

First, move the recipes to a new folder with a name other than what it is.

Then open BS and build a new simple recipe.

Save the new recipe.

Now, go look for it and find out WHERE BS saved the recipe.

Then, move your old recipes into that place where BS just saved the one you built.

Close BS completely and then launch it again and see if it sees them.

If it does, great.. You win, hava a homebrew!

Now, if it doesn't see them, I would suspect the file extention to be incorrect.

You will need to look at the files in Windows Explorer and find the option that lets you see the file details so you can see the list of files with their extentions.

Now compare the old files with the new one that BS saved and adjust the name and extension of the old ones accordingly if they are different.

IF that is not the problem, then look for an IMPORT feature in the BS interface that might allow importing the older files (Not even sure if that's a thing as I use BeerSmith 2 Mobile on my iPad2 so I have NOT seen the interface for all the versions for other systems etc...)

Good luck and if all else fails, email beersmith support.

W8.1 to 10 then a fresh install of 10 after the upgrade.
I was able to do what PapaG said but one at a time will take me days. :) I have over 400 recipes in there.
Thanks guys!

Paul, was it the file extension that was the issue?

I don't think so. When I create a new recipe, it saves it in the same place I copied all the old recipes too. I rebooted, reinstalled Beersmith and it lets me only drag a few in at a time to save. It'll take a while but I'll get it done.

Interesting...

When you say 'it' only lets me drag a few in at a time, I am assuming you mean Win10?

You should be able to highlight (select all) of the recipes in the 'other folder' and then just drag or right click copy the files and right click paste them into the BS recipe folder.

BS won't see them until it is closed and then reopened prolly as it most likely needs to 'read' the recipe folder when it loads up...

I did just that but BS won't see them. The only way I can save any recipes is to drag a few in at a time. Too many and BS crashes.
The import wizard does absolutely nothing.
I'm going to start over and uninstall Beersmith and reinstall it and see if that works.

Interesting... Well at least it seems like you have a handle on it anyway...
Just gonna take some time I suppose...

I am computer illiterate for the most part, couldn't figure out how to get from computer to laptop. Finally hit me upload to the cloud then down load to laptop. Just throwing my two cents in here.

Doesn't BS have a recipe 'export/import' function, I would think it does. Unfortunately I'm still using good ol' qBrew and don't have hands on experience with BS.

This link seems to talk about file location issues when upgrading to Win10...

http://www.beersmith.com/forum/index.php?topic=4263.0

"I was finally able to find them in" C:\Users\jfulton\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\BeerSmith""

"The files are supposed to be in the C:\Program\Files\BeerSmith directory but Windows Vista and Windows 7 move them to the "virtual store" if you are not an administrator.

In version 2.0 I've separated all of the data so it will now reside in your "Documents/BeerSmith2" directory for much easier backup."

The cloud only holds a certain number of recipes unless you pay extra for it which I don't.

As for the import export function,i've tried that but that doesn't seem to work. But if I browse to the folder holding the recipes it doesn't even see them. But I did post in their forum so maybe they can help. There were others that posted similar problems with no answers.

But the good news is I have hard copies of most of my recipes and they are on my computer but will just take time to copy.

Thanks for the help.

Mine went away also, but I just downloaded my recipes from the cloud. (I went from 8 to 10 so might not apply)

I'm taking note to make sure I backup my recipes somewhere if I upgrade Windows.

Maybe I should look at upgrading my license/account to include cloud storage.

I put them on the cloud, download from cloud to laptop, delete from cloud, add more to cloud, etc.
