Recipe Collaboration Exchange - Winter 2016

Post by FedoraDave »

Well, it's that time again. Let's get lots of folks involved in the Recipe Collaboration Exchange!

If you know how it works, just sign up in this thread. Don't forget to include your Level.

For new members/participants, here's how it works:
You sign up, indicating your Level of Experience (explained below). I then pair you up with another participant. The two of you communicate via emails or Borg PMs, and work on a beer recipe together, which you both brew individually.

That's all there is to it. There's no deadline on finishing your recipe. There's no deadline on brewing it. You don't have to both brew it at the same time. You don't have to share your beer with your partner or anyone else, unless you choose to. It's just a way to get to know another Borg member a little better, work on a recipe, and maybe learn something new, whether it's a style you haven't brewed, an ingredient that's new, or a process you're not familiar with. And you get beer out of it!

Here are the Levels. Don't forget to include your Level when you sign up.

Level 1: Only done HME kits, such as BrewDemon or Mr. Beer
Level 2: Have done extract recipes with hop additions; maybe some specialty grains
Level 3: Have done Partial Mash and/or larger kits, such as those sold by Midwest Supplies or Northern Brewer
Level 4: Have done All-Grain and formulated original AG recipes

If you're a higher level, it would help me if you include whether you're willing to work with a lower level brewer. I'm Level 4, and I certainly don't mind working with a Level 1, 2, or 3.

Sign-ups close and partners will be assigned on Sunday, Feb. 14 (because I just love you guys!).

And if a moderator could make this a universal sticky across all forums, I'd be obliged.

Join the fun, folks! Collaborate on a recipe, learn something new, get to know another Borg member, and make some swell beer! :fedora:

Due to my busy schedule/moving/general craziness in my life I had to sit out the last few rounds of RCE, but I am definitely ready to get back in. It's such a great way to make a good beer and a new brewing friend. Count me in! Level 4.

I had a great time with Foothiller last time but I'm out this round. Between a busy time of year and being focused on preparing for my new mash tun my brain is otherwise occupied.

Have fun y'all. I'll be watching to see what comes out of this again.

I'm in the same boat as Kaelia. It's busy season in the school music world. Perhaps in Spring, but I'm out on this one.

Following up on a great collaboration with Kealia in the previous RCE, I'm looking forward to more. I am Level 4, but actually would look forward to working with a lower level to see what we can do with non-all-grain techniques. Of course, a pairing with another Level 4 would also be welcome, since I have had some great brews from the previous RCEs. Thanks for getting this together, Dave.

Still waiting for a moderator or administrator to make this a universal stickie. We'll have better luck signing people up (especially new and less-experienced brewers) if it's at the top of every forum.

One more week to go before sign-ups close and the assignments are determined. Right now, we've got six Level 4 brewers signed up; a small but spirited group, and I know they'll come up with some great collaborations.

Jump in, folks! The water's fine, and you'll get some very good beer as a result.

I'm glad HoppySmile chimed in. It reminded me I had to decide if I was in this time or not.

I'm level 4 and will work with any level.

Can do something tame, or:

Count me in too Dave, as a level 4 brewer who has not brewed an extract batch, with a hop boil and steeping grains in years. I guess the saying 'everything old is new again' applies to me here. I've often wondered what an extract batch would taste like using a temperature controlled fermentation. Hmmnn maybe a nice Kölsch style would be a good example, but I'm open to anything.
