Craft breweries selling out to these guys should at least have some self respect and sell to a company that will support their product

Re: Bud is so desperate
One might say, I don't get it-why would Bud make a commercial that seems to speak to Craft Brewers more that to their own clientèle. But, of course, this is how their clientèle is supposed to address Craft Beer (VIA Buds prompting)-with a violent "up yours" attitude. A "real" Bud drinker is supposed to turn down a "sipping" beer like a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA by pouring a Bud down their throat and slamming it on the table-per Budweiser's prompting. I'll just add that I don't think much of people that insult a home brewer for wanting to make an American Lager either. Everyone should have the beer they enjoy.

I never make fun of people who like to drink what they like to drink, I mean what's the point? In their desperation it seems InBev is willing to do just about anything to retain their ever shrinking market share.

It's call market segmentation. I think the Bud ad is very well done, appealing to Bud drinkers. Most people have no clue that they own craft beers, people order Blue Moon thinking it is a craft beer.
How many people know all the brands that P&G owns, where each brand plays against the other?

Re: Bud is so desperate
Oh I agree it's a well done smart commercial from a bud point of view. And I understand the business end of things from all sides. Bud seems extra desperate to appear as "cool" in this ad.
Most beer drinkers are ignorant to who owns what (even craft beer drinkers). I'm not saying you have to stroke me off if you buy out my company but don't shit on me either.
I just think companies like Elysian, Golden Road, Goose Island, etc, etc should have a little pride in what they do. And before anyone tries to get cheeky, I know you can't pay the bills with pride. But guess what none of these businesses were struggling to pay the bills to begin with.
But Wu-Tang Clan said it best "Cash rules everything around me, C.R.E.A.M., Get the money; dollar, dollar bill, y'all."

Well, while their share is obviously shrinking... their share of the marketplace is still HUGE. While I agree they should start playing towards both crowds (craft and industrial beer drinkers), you can't fault them too much for playing towards the masses.

Just my opinion, but my takeaway from that commercial is that they've actually softened the anti-craft message from last year. This year's commercial is more "pro-Bud" than "anti-craft," IMO. Yes, there are some swipes at craft beer in there, but not as obnoxious and off-putting as last year. This spot seems more focused on promoting Bud's qualities (or perceived qualities) than scoffing at the craft beer culture.
Granted, it's still a douchey path to head down, for a company that makes money by buying craft brands. But I'm less offended by this one that last year's.

Re: Bud is so desperate
This isn't about craft beer vs. Budweiser, or imports vs. Budweiser, it's completely about Budweiser's share of the market, which has been slipping, and they want to get that name recognition back. AB-Inbev is a foreign company, and it's been buying up craft breweries, so the "not a small, craft beer" and "not an import" claims seem kind of stupid. But Budweiser is an American brand, and they brew the best-selling Standard American Lager, and that's what it's about.
This is a Budweiser commercial, meant to sell Budweiser beer. It's not an AB-Inbev commercial. It's just marketing. It's marketing one single product. No more, no less.

I hadn't noticed it when I opened the link, but I did see this when it aired during the game:
They say, "It's not a hobby."
Well. No, it's not a hobby for you. It's not a hobby for the independent craft and microbrewers, either; it's their livelihood. It is a hobby for the multitude of homebrewers across the country. You're snagging on hobbyists because we're taking part of your market?! That's like Delmonico's Steak House snagging on the weekend grilling enthusiast.
We don't sell our beer. We make it for ourselves, our families, and our friends. We do it because we like to create custom beer, and we like to explore the many styles of beers, and because we enjoy the satisfaction of drinking beer we created ourselves. You want to put my beer-making "out of business?" Lots of luck with that.

Re: Bud is so desperate
I incorporated this into a longer screed on my Facebook page. Budweiser got complacent when they were the biggest dog in a small room, and now that there's more diversity and choice, they're crying "foul." Sorry, Bud, but you can't blame your failure to keep up with the times on those who changed with the times.mashani wrote:You forgot that we like our own beer better then yours.FedoraDave wrote:We don't sell our beer. They may have been, in part, also referring to the "hobby" of non-brewing folks that like to "taste and compare" different crafts that are out there, "sipping" and buying one six pack at a time.FedoraDave wrote:I hadn't noticed it when I opened the link, but I did see this when it aired during the game:
