Boy, did I almost blow it!

I nearly forgot I need to make my yeast starter tonight if I'm gonna brew on Sunday morning. I won't have time to do it tomorrow morning before work, and I want it to have at least 24 hours before I pitch it.

Good thing it's only a little before 8:00. Got plenty of time. Just waiting for the yeast to come up to room temp, and then I'll get on it.

This is why I keep some dry yeast around. Though not always the kind I want, it can prevent losing a brew day.
What ya brewing?

Pearly Pils. I posted the recipe in Advanced Recipes, and if you were any kind of a friend, YOU'D KNOW THIS! :x

I'm hoping to enter this in Homebrew Alley 8, which should be held in early Feb. '14, and I want to give it plenty of time to condition. Just a pretty simple, almost SMaSH German Pils. But I'm hoping the simplicity will be an advantage. Also I think, with any lager, the process is more important than the recipe, to an extent.

But it would be supremely ironic, after all my planning and preparation up to this point, to forget to make a yeast starter at the proper time.

LOL, I'm also one hell of a moderator. Aren't I suppose to read EVERY post?
I do remember this now that you told me but please remember, I'm old and I've heard the mind is the first thing to go. Glad it's not my taste buds.

Good catch, Dave. That would have been bad if you had all that work go for nothing because of a yeast starter.

So I didn't blow it, although I just remembered I wanted to pick up five gallons of distilled water to soften my tap water for this brew. I made a trip to the store for other stuff today, too, but I plumb forgot it.

No matter, I have time to get it tomorrow. But I'd better write myself a note, just in case.

D'oh! At least this one won't throw off the brewday!

No, not at all, Jim. I think I just about have all my ducks in a row. And I know I'll be reminded about going out to get the water because my yeast starter is in the ManCave, which means I have to walk through it to go upstairs and change my clothes once I get home from work.

Trust me, it makes sense to me.

That's the most important, as long as your brewing makes sense to you. Well, maybe that's second, behind making beer. Good tasting beer is a plus, but not always a requirement.

There's always the option of not going to work ... Image

Uh...that's not really an option, Tom. If I don't go to work, I could lose my job. If I lose my job, I lose my income. If I lose my income, I won't have any money. If I don't have any money, I can't buy brewing ingredients to make beer.

At any rate, I only had to work until around 2:00 today, and after getting home, changing, and having lunch, I went out and got my distilled water. So I'm all set for tomorrow. Gonna be a long brew day, but I'm hoping it's a rewarding one further on down the road, with a good German Pils to drink, and maybe even get a competition ribbon.
