Life gets in the way...

Post by LouieMacGoo »

I know i haven't been around very much over the last few months but as I said in the title, Life gets in the way. Unfortunately these life things have not been pleasant. I don't normally like to share my personal life here because I don't want to bore you all. But so much has happened that I feel I must share if for no other reason but to get it off my chest. I will spare you all the ugly details and just cover everything in brief.
As some of you know last fall my wife's mother moved in with us. She had been diagnosed almost a year ago with ALS and in the fall her condition had deteriorated to the point that she could no longer take care of herself. Her moving in has not been easy and any extra space or time I had has been taken up by her added things and supporting my wife as we both care for my mother-in-law.

In February my father suffered a stroke. He has been in the hospital up until this last week when he finally came home. Although he is home he still has a long road to recovery and currently needs around the clock care. This has been very stressful on our whole family (brothers, sister and our mother) as we try to care for my parents and get use to this new "norm".

Then two weeks ago on my birthday we were woken at 3 am by a huge crashing noise, looking out the window we saw two of our cars that had been parked in the street smashed after being hit head on by a hit and run driver. One of our cars was able to get fixed but my car didn't have collision insurance and is basically a total loss. If that wasn't enough after doing my taxes I discovered that I didn't pay nearly enough taxes last year and now owe a considerable amount. :(

Fortunately, my family has been very supportive of everything that has been going on and we have all been supporting each other to get through this.

Thanks for letting me rant. Cheers and happy brewing.

Also thank you to those of you that did know what has been going on and have reached out and offered your thoughts. prayers and support. It is greatly appreciated.

So sorry you're dealing with all of this Leigh. I saw the car 'problem' via twitter and got pissed off about it. I hate no life pisses of shyte that aren't man enough to turn themselves in but its likely DUI.
As for the family, I can only wish you and them the best but they are obviously well taken care of because you are good people.
Finally, the IRS. I take out more than I need in taxes and still have to pony up some each and every year as I watch some people who hardly work get enough back each year to buy a nice, used car. That pisses me off too.
Thanks for letting me rant about your rant.
All the best!

Sorry to hear all that's gone wrong for you. I hippie things start looking up.

Is there any chance that your vehicle damage could be covered under uninsured motorist rather than collision?

@Beer-lord, never stress about what people get back in their taxes. That just means they made a tax free loan to the IRS.

When it rains, it pours. Sometimes just getting a chance to vent can help. I truly believe things even out. For every good day there is a bad. For every bad day a good. Sounds like you've got some good days coming out there somewhere. It is just a matter of working yourself towards them.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Positive sign is your dad has been able to come home. Other stuff will sort itself out.

I'm sorry you're going through all of this, Leigh. One or two of these things would be stressful enough.

Take one day at a time, and remember, you've got an emotional support team in the Borg.

That was my first thought, as well.
You are getting hit on many fronts, and that's more than anyone should have to deal with at one time.
ALS in particular is miserable beyond words.
Best wishes to you and your family, and feel free to vent any time. You won't be 'boring us' - promise!

Sorry to hear this Leigh, sometimes life deals us rough hands and all you can do is play the cards your given. If Coming on here and venting helps (and I know it dose) by all means do so. I know I for one don't mind. You've got friends here willing to help, even if the only real help we can offer is a friendly ear.

Leigh, I am SO very sorry to hear all of this, especially the health problems with mom and dad. Besides our prayers, is there anything we can do to help? I know that's quite a big question but maybe some of us hear can help is some way?

All the best to you and yours.
