Naples Florida Breweries

Post by ScrewyBrewer »

This year's visit to North Naples Florida was especially nice, the weather has been absolutely beautiful and a new brewery has opened nearby. I visited Momentum Brewing yesterday and spoke to owner and head brewer Brian Hahn at length. His is a classic story of a homebrewer risking his family's life savings to open a brewery. I was amazed when he said from inception to pouring his first pint in the caption it took just 9 months.

What really surprised me though is a 12% award winning barley wine that went from kettle to tap in just 8 days! When pressed Brian admitted that all of his beers were ready to be served in a week, and they tasted good too. The week included a 3 day cold crash and I assume he can carbonate the beer in a few hours, probably using 300 psi, but that doesn't leave more than 3-4 days for fermentation.

I have a standing invitation to watch him brew, if only I was staying here a few more days.

That is interesting. I've had a few visits to new breweries, and chances to speak to owners/brewers. It is enlightening.

It was an aye opening experience to me for two reasons, in the Great state of New Jersey, according to a number of brewery owners I've spoken to, it take 2 years to get a brewery opened instead of 9 months. And I always thought that it took a barley wine, or any 12% beer for that matter, more than a week before it was ready to drink.

I agree, I'm impressed by both. I've read that NY is trying to accelerate the application process for breweries. I think they see beautiful tax revenues on the horizon.
