Hops in mash

Anyone used hops in Mash?
Considering experimenting with it on my next batch
Thinking maybe 1/2oz Sorachi Ace in 3 Gallon Batch

Google Mash Hopping and you'll see lots of stuff about it.
I can only go by the podcasts I listen to as I've not tried it but the bottom line I got was, it was wasting hops so I never went further. Still, you never know until you try it yourself.

Never tried it myself, but Mike Tasty McDole does it a lot. I have had his Janets Brown Ale on my brew list for a long time, I want to brew it over the summer and it calls for mash hops. From what I have heard about it, it's kind of along the lines of FWH, where the oils are extracted at a lower temp and preserving some of the flavor/aroma. But who knows.

I've never tried it, so don't know anything about it. My comment is more of an aside.
If you do this, don't use the spent grain to make dog biscuits, since the hops can cause real problems for dogs.

Good advice.
I believe I've had just one mash-hopped beer, and it was awesome. My local brewpub put it out as a Special Edition. It's been a few years, but I recall that it was very flavorful, with the hop influence being full, but not in-your-face, like an IPA. Of course, I would have to say that it depends on the grain bill, the hops bill, and a number of other factors, such as temperature, the yeast used, and who knows what else.
It's worth experimenting with, I'd say. As MadBrewer said, it may be along the lines of FWH, so you may not want to do it with every beer you make. I FWH only one of my recipes, and I'm very pleased with the results, but I can't see doing it with every batch I brew.

The only beer that I know of that I've had that was mash hopped was 1809 Berliner. But that beer was also never boiled. So the only place the hops can go and get any heat/possible AA extraction is the mash, unless you dry hop - but that would be "weird" in a Berliner.
