My Wife Saved a Life This Week
By donating a kidney.
Her friend from youth was in need, and getting worse. At first it was going to be kind of a baseball trade: She sends a kidney to Boston, they send one to San Diego, and another comes to NY. But more testing revealed that she was the best match for Tom. On Tuesday morning they both had surgery. Both are much improved since then, Tom radically. Jane is tired and sore, but much better over the last couple of days. She has to take it easy for a while, and gets to direct me in housework.
The whole thing can be a little scary, she was fearless. Honestly, I'm not sure I would be as gracious as she is. I have checked the little box on my license making me an organ donor if I should die. I used to feel a little odd about that, but I've seen firsthand that it can save another life. Please think about it if you have not already chosen that option.

Wow....that's pretty awesome. It takes a very special person to volunteer to do something like that. Blessings to your wife and Tom!!

Glad things are working out!
Re: My Wife Saved a Life This Week
That is only topped by the supreme sacrifice so you have every right to be so very proud of your wife........she did something few people would do.
And I have my drivers license marked as an organ donor too so that not only can someone maybe live after I'm gone, but so I can be a small part of that.
Please tell your wife that she is an angel.

Please give your wife a BIG HUG from all of us (watch the sore spot though). That is going above and beyond. Also John, a big hug to you too. That must have been nerve racking for you also.

Re: My Wife Saved a Life This Week
I've been marked as an organ donor since I started road cycling, so for many many years. If I go splat, I want to help someone. I've never thought twice about that or felt weird in any way about that.
But the kind of thing your wife did, most folks simply wouldn't have the guts for. It's totally different. Only thing more intense would be taking a bullet for someone.
So give her a (careful) hug from me too. She is awesome and very brave.

Very impressive.
I think we would all love to be able to do the right thing if put in the same situatuation. Not everybody would.

There are very few people willing to take on such a selfless act for another, you have every reason to be proud of her.
