Got to work another great funky fest via Yazoo yesterday... The Embrace the Funk Fest in the books. It was a lot of work, but a good deal of fun. It was moved to the Yazoo Barrel House this year instead of at the main brewery, which was a nice change of pace. A ton of guest breweries and speakers (
New Belgium sour program,
Green Bench,
Wicked Weed,
NOLA,
Perennial,
Blackberry Farms,
Against the Grain,
Black Abbey,
Upland,
Merchant du Vin,
Carolina Bauernhaus,
Bootleg Biology,
Omega Yeast Labs, and others that I'm not remembering); great food from
Smoke et Al,
Homestead Manor and
Bloomy Rind; and a huge amount of quality sour and funk beer (something like 19 pints/person was on hand, so a lot left over). Fantastic day....
Here's a bunch o' pics...
The whole hog went fast...

I'm sure our New Orleans friends will spot Kirk Coco in those pics. Others may know the Salazars, who run the New Belgium barrel program. Somehow I ended up in a lot of pics this year...

Oh, just racked 5 gallons of my 6 month old quasi Tart of Darkness clone onto 2lbs of dried cherries and 2.5lbs dried figs.

It still, as it did in the day, "Tastes Like Zhit"™ Very thick, syrupy mouthfeel with hints of Sprite (only a bit of the lemon-lime flavor remained).

Lots of funky people. Too bad I was not one of them.

How does your palette hold up during a day of tasting sours and funky beers? I know even doing IPAs during a beerfest that my palette starts to fade after a number of them.

My taste buds have exploded and my mouth is hurting just reading this post. Awesome pictures, looked like a great day to eat good food and drink funky beer.

Looked like, on top of it being all funky, it was a beautiful day. Looks like breweries were well represented!
