New type of beer can?

A buddy of mine here in Northern California just posted this picture. Looks like a pop-top can had a baby with those new beer glasses that look like beer cans:

Has anybody else come across these yet? Looks like a way to get all the benefits of a can (light protection, weight, durability, etc.) and not need a glass to drink from.

I remember those cans too. Damn, I'm old!
I've not seen those beer cans in my area. What's the reason behind that top? Are there claims that it taste better than drinking from the pop top?

I think I like that can. Can they make a clear one that lets me admire the color? Maybe one that turns clear when you open it?
