Testing Help Wanted

I've been playing around with options to integrate the Taproom with the forum. I am still trying to find a forum software plugin that works the way I want it to. In the meantime I have a test page up that I threw together that has both the forum and a chat box.

It's not pretty but it seems to be working appropriately, so if anyone would like to give it a try and let me know what you think I would appreciate it.

Cheers!

Seems to be working. Would be nice if it knew who I was since I was already logged in, but I think your just launching the separate chat module in an iFrame so that might not be as simple as it sounds. Is unlikely mobile friendly (at least on small phone screens) though, but probably not much you can do about that.

Not usable on my Android tablet. Makes the former half width and 1/2 long. I will do a screen print, which took a whill bease I had to rdeuce photo sizes.... With and without. Note - I did not have to sign in to the chat, just type my username, no password.

That is how it is showing up on Android mobile device too. I signed in with another user name for another website but don't see where to sign out. Posted some tests stuff but now that I'm signed in here on Android mobile, I don't see those posts, just that I have joined the channel.

I am now signed in on the laptop. It is the same split screen from Ricks screenshots and I see now that my other user name is not there. it is showing that I have joined as Dawg LB Steve now. Seems that closing the web browser signs you out of the chat room.

EDIT: I signed out and closed the browser on the laptop, went into the chat again not signed into the Borg and it shows that I am still signed into chat and can post content.

Now that I have actually read that first post, it is working exactly as you described it Leigh.

I left the chat opened overnight to see if it would time out. I got a message this morning "Network error. Please reload the chat to continue".
Likely this was due to my computer going into sleep mode but I see no way to restart it, close it or the browser without closing the complete tab.
If possible, it would be nice to have the option to log off one or both windows. Still, on a pc, this works pretty well as both the forum and chat room are together and easily accessible.

If you really want it to be tested out you should send out an email about it (with a link).

I am sure some of the old MBFers (that's the correct term isn't it?) would love to use it.

My short 2 cents:
I would assume the final would actually be integrated with the forum so I won't say more about that.
More length definitely, maybe a little less width. But again, no doubt, it will be sized better when final.
I was able to sign in and post, but didn't see anyone else there.
If that is going to be a sidebar box there needs to be another sidebar box to keep it company. Perhaps something BOTM. :)

I loved the shoutbox on the old Mr. Beer Fans site, and part of what I loved about it was its simplicity. Everyone who was logged in could see it or post--there was no separate login needed.

I wonder if it wasn't actually a chatroom, but more of a special BB thread that didn't show subject or sigs or anything...just a little display of who posted what (with a timestamp on mouseover).

Prof, do you know any more insight about the nuts and bolts of how the good ol' shoutbox worked?

That said, thanks for all your hard work, working to get the taproom integrated with the forum. I know I really appreciate it, and I'm sure others do as well!

It was a Data Island that could be used in a UBB.Threads Portal wherein:
Shout Box - Shout Box provides a fun opportunity for users to post a one-off message that doesn't necessarily have to relate to any conversation. All comments are stored inline, with a link to the author's name, and administrators and moderators can delete individual comments as necessary.

I don't believe there was ever an issue with it so I never investigated anything about it.

I'm in this Chat now if anyone would like to join and check it out.

Just type in your Username in the chat window when it comes up.

I like the setup, my only thing is it could be smaller, but having it on the same page it a lot better than have to switch tabs.

Not good on iPad2 with latest release (iOS 9.3.5)

Screenshot below...

Functionally, it seems to work (although I don't know for sure as I haven't seen anybody on it to test with)

BUT: It locates itself at the bottom of the forum window/frame.

Since my setup has the latest messages on top, having it at the bottom wouldn't work for me.

I'm sure it's as simple as a sizing issue.
