Hoping all of our Louisiana brothers and sisters are staying high and dry. Have seen some pictures that don't look good from areas of the state. PLEASE STAY SAFE!!! You never know how deep or what kind of current is associated with flood waters.

RedBEERd and I are fine, thanks for asking. The Metro NOLA area did just fine thanks to the fine levees we already had and that were improved thanks to your tax dollars!
But, just 35 miles away and further, it's a different story. Hardly any people have flood insurance as they are much higher than us and, (we've hard this before) it has never flooded there before.
Guys and girls, I don't care where you live other than the desert, get flood insurance. It can't be that expensive for most of you. If it weren't for flood insurance, after Katrina, I would not be back in business. It was truly a business saver for me. This was a lot of rain and if it fell anywhere, likely we'd see the same.
I'm still trying to figure out how I can help in some small way other than donations.

We're getting a good bit of rain here in Houston, but nothing like what's happening in parts of Louisiana right now, and nothing like the tax-day floods either.

Even if you live in the desert, you should get flood insurance. I have seen flash floods that would wipe out a house in 5 minutes of a downpour. Hope all of you in the south are staying dry, but you could send some here and we wouldn't mind a bit to take it off your hands. Be safe

Just talked to my sister who lives in washington,LA and they got 20 inches in one day. whoa

I think in the late 90's my area got about 20" in 24 hours but many of these areas got 20" in much less time. Then, they got the flooding from the rivers overflowing. Double whammy.
I wish I owned a sheetrock company (sorry, don't mean this in a bad way but they will be working 3 shifts for many months to come).

That's more than my annual precipitation. And most of that is snow.

thats more than we have gotten in 4 years. 20 inches in 24 hours would wash california in the ocean

Louisiana is getting washed into the Gulf...sea levels are rising, wetlands are becoming more wet than land, and the "boot" needs a cobbler.

It's not just a "this flood" kind of thing, either--it's been steadily happening, with things like Katrina and this flood exacerbating it--it's really kind of scary if you look at what it looks like now vs 50 years ago.

It'll still be here while I'm alive but in 50 more years, unless we can reclaim some land back, it won't be pretty. But, there are some areas that are actually growing with the help of some technology and also with some special plants. It's pretty amazing what can be done. The question is, will be do it.
And, it's not only Louisiana. Parts of Mobile, Alabama, Florida and Texas (Galveston) have the same problems.
