I often thought if a person could get enough Home Brew into him he would crack and spill the beans on his recipe

Well I concur on this choice Hat Man as you are my brewer of all time in the infinite universe. Please keep being you forever and always. :fedora:

BTW since I've been away a while are you guys still shipping a BOTM trinket/award thingy around? Man that bad boy has got to weigh a ton by now; are we holding fund raisers to cover the shipping costs? I mean we could start running off some of the best brewing talent we have on here when the shipping costs go 3 or 4 digits.

No, I don't; it's one of the privileges of office. :p

Thanks for your votes, everyone; I'm honored. And thanks, Professor, for running the latest RCE up the flagpole; I hope it generates interest in it over the next couple of weeks.

Now, for the questions:

1. When did you start brewing, and how did you become interested?
I was interested in it for a few years before I started, having read snippets on other social media from homebrewers, and knowing it was a thing, but I was intimidated, figuring I'd need an advanced degree in chemistry, or something to master all the arcane details. But for Christmas, 2009, my wife got me a Mr. Beer kit, and I was hooked. Little did she know that six short years later, I'd have two mash tuns, three carboys (a 5g and two 2.5gs), a lager fridge, a dorm fridge for bottled beer, a keezer with two taps, and three 5g kegs and a 2.5g keg. Yes, she created a monster, but she's very supportive. She understands it's more than my hobby; it's my therapy.

2. Who would you most like to share a beer with?
I think Ben Franklin would be a great drinking partner. Not only did he really appreciate a good ale, but I'd love to just sit with him and chat about all sorts of things. He was a brilliant thinker, philosopher, musician, inventor, scientist, wit, and writer, and picking his brain over a pint or three would prove fascinating.

3. What is your favorite beer?
So many to choose from! Of my own recipes, I'd have to say it's my signature beer, FedoraDave's American Ale, especially since I modified the hops bill this summer. It's crisp and satisfying, and I'm very proud of it. For commercial beers, it's a little tougher, as there are so many excellent ones to choose from. I'm very fond of Bell's Two-Hearted Ale, New Belgium's Fat Tire, and Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin', though. I don't think I'd ever turn down a pint of any of those, if offered.

4. Do you have a beer recipe you'd like to share?
I had thought of sharing the American Ale recipe, but instead, I'll share my recipe for Sunbonnet Lemon Wheat. I had wanted to make a shandy, but wasn't sure how to get the lemonade flavor in the beer without compromising it with stabilizers and other undesirables that come with commercial lemonade. So I just decided to add lemon zest to a fairly simple wheat ale recipe, and the result was a tasty and refreshing summer lawnmower beer. One of my favorites during the warm months.

SUNBONNET LEMON WHEAT (2.5 gallons)

2 lb White Wheat
1.5 lb 2-Row
2 oz. Honey Malt

0.33 oz. Mt. Hood 60 minutes

WLP 320 - American Hefeweizen

Add 2 oz. honey 7 minutes before flameout

Add 2 tsp. fresh lemon zest (2-3 lemons) one week before bottling.

Delicious!
