A Personal Request

Post by LouieMacGoo »

In November of 2015 my mother-in-law Rosemarie came to live with us after battling ALS for nearly a year. She had been very independent up until that time relying on friends and neighbors to help her out with day to day activities, but as ALS drained her strength and mobility it was no longer safe for her to live by herself and came to live with us. Over the next 5 months it was clear that everyday she was weaker and it became a struggle for her to move by herself from the bedroom to the living room or even bathroom. It was truly heartbreaking to see a woman that was once to independent and full of life reduced to a shell of her previous self. In her last few weeks she became so weak that she couldn't get up or move without assistance and she had lost her appetite and barely ate. What she was able to eat was difficult for her to swallow and in the last few days her breathing became very shallow because her muscles had become so weak that she just couldn't take a deep breath.

Our family witnessed firsthand the toll that ALS takes on it's victims. The slow and painful deterioration of the body while the mind is still intact. It was truly heartbreaking and this is the reason we are helping to raise money to find a cure for this dreaded decease.

On October 1st my family will be walking to defeat ALS and I would like to ask all of you to help us reach our goal. Any amount large or small would be greatly appriciated.

Thank you,

Leigh

I'm in for a case of cheap beer, or a batch of homebrew. But since I can't send that online, I just used a credit card.
Sorry about your mother in law.

Ditto that. Wish there was more I could do. ALS is a horrible illness. :(

My thoughts are with you.
This is (fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) not the first request for an ALS walk donation I've received/seen this year and I've donated elsewhere. It all goes to the cause, though!

Best wishes.
