Hug Your Kids

Jane and I had a sad and busy week. While sailing last Saturday, we got word that our dear friends' 25 year old son was killed in a one car accident. No one knows for sure, but the theory is that he fell asleep. He crashed on a country road at 8am, was not a drug user or drunk. The family is devastated, we are heartbroken.
If there is any bright spot, it is that the community response was amazing. People sent food every day. Hundreds turned out for the funeral, the highway was blocked off for the procession. People (including my wife) cleaned their house, organized the food, opened their homes. The local distributor sent cases of beer, flowers and fruit abounded.
I've seen too much death, and too many way too young. The only conclusion I reach is to value the good people while they are still here. So drive carefully, hug your kids, and say a prayer for Wayne, Maria, Kimberly, Rebecca and "Little" Wayne, that they find some measure of peace.
