Giving it a swirl.
Howdy all. Haven't been here for a LONG time. Life has been kicking me around.
Any who way....
I've been brewing when I can, not as often as I like, but enough to keep me from buying more bottles with free beer in them.
As some of you old timers recall, I like playing around and finding New things to do.
I've moved around a bit sense leaving Texas, and have settled in Washington.
Some of my equipment didn't quite survive the moves. One of those items was my spray bottle for the anti boil over of the wort.
What I've done of late (and yeah, I tried that bit with placing a wood paddle over the pot...it worked ONCE, and then, well, lets just say I tried other options), anyway...on with my ramblings...
when the wort gets up to about 200 degrees, I start swirling the wort. you'll note it starts to bubble in the middle where there is less mass. I keep the swirl going (not necessarily using the paddle continuously) but just insure it swirls.
I do this though the Break, and avoid boil over.
I've done this for the last 8 batches with 100% success.
So, I'm just putting it out there for others to see.

Bought time to retire and do nuttin but brew ya green old fart! I do what I've done for years and it works good, for me. I heat until the foam just starts up, right about a good simmer then remove the heat. I let it sit for a good 10 minutes then back on the heat. Hot break is done, I've not had to tend the kettle or stir over the hot wort. Has worked for me for years but there is always a first time.

When we gonna get together and have a few more brews old man??

Hi 'Dag, it's good to hear that you're brewing again! I bet it must feel good, especially now that you're living up in 'Hop' country.

That's a good technique if it works for you. And it's always good to have options. I don't get a big hot break, since I'm heating it on my stovetop rather than a propane burner out in the yard. It takes a while to get there, and I can monitor it pretty well, and there's usually enough head space that, even if I did nothing, it probably wouldn't foam over.

But I keep my spray bottle handy anyway.

Well FIT, that depends on WHEN it could happen.
As far as this technique, if what you're doing is working for you, by all means, continue on. Like I said, it's just something that I kinda discovered while making beer.
And after brewing today, I'm making Nong Dawg Biskies for my little girls.

Sure, I guess it falls under 'but not limited to'...

That is, so long as they are really your teeth, and you haven't been using them as a bottle opener.

Unless, of course, you call after the deadline... Which sadly, was yesterday!

Well, considering I have more store bought teeth than originals, you can be assured an opener is used. I'd get back into Kegging if I had the room for the keezer.
