Who's brave enough to brew in this weekend's cold?

Post by Beer-lord »

The weather dudes and gals are preaching that it's going to be cold as you know what this weekend for much of the U.S. Even down south we're going to be below freezing the next few nights and the days are going to feel like low 30's or less. So, who's brave enough (or stupid enough) to brew this weekend?
I'm going to on Sunday where the high might no reach the mid 40's. Sure I know you northerners laugh at that but with the wind and moisture, it's pretty miserable. I'm covered but it's not fun during clean up time. But real brewers do what's gotta be done and beer is what has to be done it's a beer weekend. Kegging 2 beers and brewing another. It's the weekend!

ME! I am! :jumpy:

Of course it will be inside, in a brewery on a 10 gallon system brewing for the Rat Fest Competition in February.

BTW it currently 8*F here and the high today will be 17*F. Always fun when your nose hairs freeze when you walk out side in the morning. :freeze:

Not me....way to cold here. It was 2 this morning. I just can't keep my mash temp stable when it's that cold, and it takes forever to bring that pot to a boil.

I'll be brewing but I'm not sure what I'm going to brew. US-05 and whatever ingredients I have will be involved. I wanted to do a lager but I didnt picked up lager yeast or make a starter. What are you fellas going to brew?

Although I do live in the northeastern part of the country I'll be nice and warm. I did the whole brew in the cold and snow thing. Heck with that! The main reason I built my electric system in the basement was to get out of the cold! Mother Nature can't make up her mind around here!

I will be brewing a 10 gallon batch of a new pineapple pale ale recipe with some friends. My garage brew room is heated and well insulated so we will not be bothered by the wind, snow and freezing temperatures thankfully.

So, let's total this up......1 for outdoors (me) and the rest for indoors. I seriously can't blame you guys. No way would I do this with the northern weather and in the snow. But 44 and sunny I can do every now and then.

LOL, y'all think you know cold? ROFLMAO I brew all winter, little in the summer. Right now it's -14, yea, that's minus 14. I will probably brew later this afternoon when it warms up to -10 if we get a heat wave. I brew in my garage and keep my door open so I don't get to see those.... stars.... LOL

Brew-on (in shorts in y'alls hot weather)!

I had you in mind when I posted about brewing this weekend. I could not survive that stuff.
It was 60 yesterday, going down to 34 tonite and below freezing tomorrow night and it will be back to 64 on Monday. Who's behind this stuff anyway, the Russians?

I don't know what I would do with that hot weather! I'd be in shorts for sure. I'd be working on my garden for sure, but the ground here is froze solid down 5-6 feet. Might be hard to break up to plant... LOL I'd for sure be putting some miles on my moto bike for darn sure!

Well, no brewing for me tomorrow but with a high of 19°, I am running a half marathon. Let's hope the trail isn't too icy

None for me this weekend. Just kegging my pale ale. It was 29 when I got up this morning and the weather report is calling for 12" of rain in a 24-hour period this weekend.
I'm planning on a fire, some movies, and my ass planted firmly on the couch.

Hopefully my cold is 100% gone this weekend and I can actually DRINK a beer this weekend.

I brew inside, but I do have to shuttle gear from an attached room that requires me to go out my front door and then into another door. So when it's raining and windy (as they are calling for) it's a PITA.

I am, but cheating inside. I'm trying to decide on a pilsner or a IIPA. The holiday sales have me loaded up on ingredients. I haven't made a pils in awhile. Add some nice Motueka hops for good measure...

You got it a bit colder than me, but yep no clue what cold is! If I didn't have sinus, upper respiratory and ear infection I would be brewing in the teens. I brew in detached garage and leave man door and garage door partially open with a propane heater that attaches to the tank.
