Today in stupidity in [assumed] fermentation...
So, the daughter makes smoothies from fresh fruit in a Shark blender. Apparently she made one several months ago that got shoved to the back of the fridge and forgotten. Today, while cleaning out the fridge, the wife discovered it. We were unsuccessful in getting the lid to come off... it was on solid. The wife decided to soak it in warm water to loosen it up (thinking it had gunked over). Seemed like a reasonable course of action. But.... a few minutes ago, we hear an explosion in the kitchen. As I ran in, I found the following...
Yes, sports fans, that's a Shark blender sized hole in the ceiling. And tons o' smelly old berry blendings all over the ceiling... and the wall... and the counters... and the carpet.
My theory is that the fruit fermented in the Shark, then C02 built up, and with the move from cold fridge to warm water, it caused a rocket-like send-off of the cup into the ceiling. It literally shot like a rocket. I am very fortunate that no one was near enough to get hit by it, and that it didn't hit and shatter a light fixture.
There is a nice hole in the Shark lid...
So, moral to the story... if you don't want to repaint the entire ceiling of your open floor plan house, maybe just throw away the Shark blender cup and lid...

Awesome.
Especially that you all still live.
Take that and imagine it in every wall as well as the ceiling, and beery smelling instead of berry smelling stuff everywhere, and you understand what my exploding glass carboy in the closet did a long time ago and why I will never use one again

That is amazing! And a bit funny. Surprisingly enough that would be covered by homeowners insurance to patch the ceiling and paint it. All depends on your deductible if it's worth it not for you.

I think we're all missing the obvious question here. What did it taste like?
I think you can market this. FermentRocket? (tm)

As long as no one got hurt, we can shake our heads, marvel at it, even laugh (as Mel Brooks observed, tragedy is if I cut my finger; comedy is if you fall into a manhole and die; what do I care?).
It also occurs to me that if you saw something like this in a movie or on a TV sitcom, it would get a laugh, but no one would take it seriously as something that could actually happen.

Not exactly the same thing, but:FedoraDave wrote:As long as no one got hurt, we can shake our heads, marvel at it, even laugh (as Mel Brooks observed, tragedy is if I cut my finger; comedy is if you fall into a manhole and die; what do I care?).

Definitely ok to laugh... I'm still marvelling at the perfectly cut half circle. As to taste... the smell was foul so I didn't venture a taste...
