I've been using a thermometer like this one for years:

I think it's time to upgrade and I've been thinking about a Thermapen.....but is it really worth $100??

Who has one or has used one and can provide some feedback?

I've used one for over 3 years and love it. But, they have others that aren't that much. Don't they have a smaller model in the $30 range?

It's a luxury, but I love mine. I trust its accuracy, and I use it for more than beer. It's great for checking meat, my keezer temp, water off the boil when my tea has to be just so...

Just kidding, I rarely drink tea. I drink beer! But my nephew is an anglophile and he uses his thermapen (which I bought him) to get his tea just as a Brit would have it.

Yes! Super fast and accurate.
Bought mine 4 years ago so it's coming up on a $20 per year investment which will only keep dropping. Used it last night for the emergency mash for starter wort and again tonight to check the internal temperature of the Bacon/Blue cheese coma loaf Jody made for me. Each accurate reading took less than 3 seconds. Have been thinking of getting about getting one of the new ones for brewing and leaving the old one in the kitchen.

I'm just going to assume yes. I bought the ChefAlarm and love it.

I have another brand that is cheaper, maybe $20. It reads accurately, and takes 5-6 seconds. The thermapen is faster, but the extra time doesn't add up to a minute on brew-day, and I saved $60-80. Check Amazon, there are many options.

I've had this one for years. Accurate, water-resistant, reading in 6 seconds - very happy with it.

I've watched The Jerk so many times and never knew his middle initial was an R.
You can use that thermometer for your smoke and BBQ too!

I thought about using it for my BBQ/smoker but I'm keeping this for use only with my brewing. I have a wireless probe and display thermometer for my smoker and since I put it in well before the temp gets close to being done I don't need the super quick readout.

I'm anxious to try mine this weekend (hopefully).
