I look forward to the downward prices. My jaw drops when I see some of these prices, and what some people spend on their beer habit. My son bought 2 $20 bottles of beer for us for a gift. I can't comprehend spending $20 on a bottle of beer.

That's called doing it wrong.

I often make 5 gallons of my own "limited release" beer for the price of a crowler of that s*#%!. And I don't have to stand in line with people I don't like.

It's not something I would do regularly, but I did wait for Pliny the Younger a few years back with a buddy. IIRC, we waited about 1.5hrs and it was because we were in the area with no plans, rather than planning a trip specifically for this.

In any case, we talked beer with folks and actually enjoyed the camaraderie - maybe because it was a one-time thing. I would get tired of it pretty quick as I actually find that my patience during some beer festivals does wear thin. Sometimes it can be fun to be part of a group sharing an experience and I don't mind paying a higher price for something that I find unique - as a treat.

I won't do it regularly because there are too many damn good options at fair prices to justify it for me - whether I can afford it or not. But this is my hobby and I enjoy it, so I don't mind splurging occasionally.

There are always people who will latch onto a fad or craze. I have yet to find a beer that for which I would stand in line. That said, craft beers continue to increase market share. The mega brewers certainly have taken notice as they have bought up some craft breweries and have brewed their own versions. I agree that the cream will always rise. Here in Indy we have had continuing growth of new breweries. Those that brew the best beer will survive. I have been been pleased with the quality of most of them.
