If I wanted to bring a keg or two to a party, what would the best way to keep it cold? I don't have a jockey box. I thought I could just drop the keg(s) into a trash can and fill with ice/cold water and serve from there. I'll need to keep it cold for about a day and half.

Also, I'll be transporting it over about a 3 hour drive. Just planning on strapping it in upright in the back of the truck...should be good this way too???

Is it chilled now? If so, I might use a cooler bag or some kind of insulation for the drive. I think I only brought a keg to a party once, and it was for Superbowl, so I just left it outside.

Yes it will be chilled before I leave. That's a good idea about insulating it in the drive. Maybe just wrap in a blanket or something. Thanks.

I took mine to a crawfish boil last year and put it in a wash tub with ice. Before I put it in the car for the drive, I released the pressure then let it settle at the party for a short while in ice and connected it back to gas and all was fine.
I did try to keep it as still as possible on the drive to reduce the foam.

I took two 2.5 gallon kegs to Thanksgiving last year in a cooler with ice packed around them. They were transferred from the mother keg with a jumper so there was no sediment that could be stirred up during transportation.

Can you expand a bit on transferring with a jumper?

I made a liquid to liquid jumper. Purge the receiving keg with co2 and lock open the pressure relief valve, hook up to the liquid out of the receiving keg and purge some of the pressure from the serving keg, hook up to the liquid out of the serving keg and transfer as much as you want. I had my receiving keg on a scale and knowing water is just over 8 lbs a gallon I stopped around 16 lbs.

Thanks for the info. I guess for all practical purposes, it doesn't matter to me (Utah law only allows me to take 72 fl oz out of my house) but I like to learn.

I've also done a transfer like mentioned above for kegs that I was bringing to a party. I would transfer the day before having to be transported, strap it in and transport it carefully. If at all possible I would recomend getting it set in location early in the day or the night before so it has a chance to settle in and come together again. We had a party once where I brought 2 kegs and set them in a round plastic tote with bags of ice packed in the sides. I would do it again, but line the tote with a big garbage bag.

Inkleg...I never thought about transferring to another keg. If I have one open, I'll do that!!

MadBrewer...I'll be arriving the night before the party, so it will have time to settle again. Thanks for pointing that out.
