They do offer virtual online numbers. You can generate one anytime you want. So anytime you purchase something you can log onto discover and generate a different number. That way it doesn't matter if someone even gets ahold of your virtual number.

There's quite a few that do. Some don't (American Express, Citibank). Some did (American Express) then got rid of them due to lack of use.
I use one when the site looks like they don't have their act together.

Citibank does indeed have virtual account numbers, just used one today. Amex doesn't and it annoys me to no end.

Turns out SOME Citibank cards have them. I have a Hilton Citibank Visa. There is no virtual card capability. My son has a regular Citibank Visa. He does have virtual card capability.
Also, SOME Bank of America card have it, some do not. And, the Bank of America issued Fidelity American Express card (which is issued by BofA, not Amex), does not have it.
