Oops and more oops.

I'm brewing now, well, chilling a batch. I decided to partial mash a recipe I found online with some variations, including hop substitutions. So I fed it into Brewer's Friend to keep the numbers similar. I was surprised how much malt was needed, but didn't think much about it. Late in the boil I was looking at the recipe on BF, and realized that the default efficiency for partial mash is the same as steeping grains: 35%. Okay, I adjusted it to 60%, now I have a IIPA. Better check the hops. I can help it by upping the late additions, never a bad thing. And I failed to transcribe one of the 15 minute additions, now a 10 minute addition. I'm not really worried, it shows the right numbers and there is nothing weird in it. If anyone is interested, here's the recipe:
5# Pilsen Light DME
1# Munich DME
7# Belgian Pilsner Malt
4oz Melanoidin
20 minute mash, 40 minute boil.
1oz Chinook 1.5oz Cascade @30
1oz Horizon @15
1oz Cascade @10
1oz Horizon @5
2oz Cascade Dry Hop
US05 slurry.

Might be the best beer ever so keep good notes.

You may or may not get weird numbers if BeerSmith is set to extract while entering an all grain recipe.

So this is some sort of 'Mericanized Belgian Pale Ale?

I think it will be tasty.

I've made 'Mericanized German Festbier before and that was nice.

I found the recipe on HBT, "My 2-Time Gold Winning American IPA"
The original called for 2-row, C20, Munich, Carapils and torrified wheat. His hops were Chinook, Cascade and Willamette. My version came about from the hops on hand and combining an extract kit with the Belgian Pilsner malt I have. I was tempted to do a 10 gallon split, making half with 3787. But I sprained my ankle and foot this week, and thought I would just relax and make five gallons. I have not tried this recipe before, but it has good feedback online. My horizon hops are not fresh, but smell great, so I rolled with it.

You can try to mess it up and still come out smelling roses!
Glad it came out great but can you do it again? :)

I should be able to, I wrote it down.
Funny thing, I checked the original recipe that inspired this, and I changed the grains, gravity, style, and hops, so it really is a new recipe. Jane thinks it is my best work, I'll have a chance to try it on some other people in the next week.

So now I am thinking of brewing this again, with changes. I will lower the gravity and IBU back to IPA from IIPA, and brew ten gallons to split, half with 05, half with WLP530-Westmalle yeast. I would skip or change the dry hop in the Belgian half. Any suggestions?
