or any recipe for that matter... what is the site you use for your recipes? Is there any site you recommend to stay away from? After reading Joe's post on the Imperial Red Double IPA, it got me thinking.... When it comes to cooking, people post all kinds of crap, untested, just to have it out there, so what about beer recipes? I'm sure there are poor recipes as well...

Byo.com and the AHA's Zymurgy magazine, and the AHA website are all very good!

There are also a whole lot of good recipes shared on Beersmith's cloud, the Brewtoad.com site and a few others, but remember, sites like this also have a lot of zingers and incomplete recipes and some that can't possibly produce good results (put your Borg hat on while evaluating any recipe!).

Edit: Also check the brewers site, many breweries list clone recipes for their beers right on their website!

I like to go to the brewery website. More and more of them are posting the grains and hops they use. Then I drink some of the beer and guestimate at the proportions. I usually get pretty close. Then some sites actually give you the specific recipes.

A little of all of the above. Zymurgy, BYO, the BYO Clones issue, brewery websites and/or talking to the brewer, CloneBrews, etc. Also, I search via Google, but I take those as secondary sources and compare them to sources listed earlier, as there's no real way to know how good/bad these recipes are.

I use google with the word 'clone' or 'recipe' and find lots of good ideas on forums. And I listen to Jamil's podcasts when I can.

Just typed this, then instead of the "it got posted" screen I got the "someone posted while you were typing". Then I looked and saw I'd been Swenocha'd!!!!

You can get recipes from you LHBS, as well as some of the sites like Northern Brewer. I got my Moosedrool recipe from Northern, then saw the LHBS one, and modified my purchase mostly towards theirs.

I got my Blue Moon recipe from Russki on the other forum, and then posted it here.

You can also go to a site like AiH and check out their recipes. You may not get 100% of the ingredients laid out for you but you get a general idea of what they put in what style of beer.

Another source of tested clone recipes is a thread on HomeBrew talk called 'can you brew it database'. The writer has recorded in written format the recipes from the podcast 'Can You Brew It', hosted by Jamil Zainasheff.

I usually use ones from brewtoad.com, or from other Borg members. My few original recipes still need work to be decent.
