Many times I think of a stupid name to call a beer than try to come up with a recipe to fit. This weekend, mostly because I'm an idiot, I thought of 'A Tapwork Orange' and said I'd come up with a beer to fit. Not wanting to really add oranges to it, I wondered what hops might give me what I want. I've used Summit a few times and in late additions and dry hopping, it does give a somewhat orange aroma but sometimes I do get the garlic/onion some talk about.
I know Amarillo might work but what other hops might I try to get my the orange aroma I'm looking for? I've read Zythos is close but never used it. I have used Mandarina Bavaria and got tangerine so maybe that and Amarillo? Also never used Pacifica but some mention orange as well. I've done Fresh Squeeze twice before and it has Nugget, Mosaic and Citra but I'm not a huge Nugget fan.
Suggestions?

I am not a hop expert. But I would also try to use malts to give it some sweetness, and a bright amber color.

Damn John, you might be on to something. I bet that would be good lightly carbed. Just enough to give it a kiss of fizz!!!

I do that too sometimes and the last time I did it got me a first place and anybody that has tried it thinks it's great, I also like it very much and hope I can make it again the same. If I had a tap system (and don't because I like variety) That beer would be on tap.

OK, I'll stop the hijack.

You've already mentioned it, but Amarillo puts off a lot of orange for me.

I like Nugget and grow them, but have only ever used them for bittering and don't know what they would taste like in the end.

I think BD is on to something here, I made a Amarillo PA once and that might add a lot of what you might be looking for on this.

Amarillo is the closest to orange I have used. Maybe use some blood orange candi sugar.

You could also add some coriander to whatever hop you decide on for this. It's used in some witbiers to impart an orange flavor.
Is that an option?

I am hoping to get all the orange/tangerine from hops only without any additives.
It’s still in the thinking and planing stages.

As an update, I am brewing this Sunday and though I did order 4 oz of Zythos to try, I prolly will only use some in dry hop for this beer as I will let the Amarillo, Centennial and Huell Melon impart some orange/tangerine flavors. While I expect this to be a tasty pale, I am doubtful it will live up to its name but I'll have beer.

Final recipe brewed this morning-came in 4 points low, had a low ph so I added some baking soda to bring it back up a bit and ended up a little high but it will be beer and I'll drink it and force it on my friends who have to take the good with the bad!
