Old beer cans

Post by berryman »

I have a small collection of beer cans, some old and some newer but unique. I found this one today while cleaning out the garage attic at my parents house. It’s a Carling black label steel can and had to be opened with a opener. It’s not in A one shape but not bad. I’ve been on the net trying to date it this afternoon and haven’t seen one like it yet. Not wanting to sell it just trying to figure the date. Anybody know of some sites I could look?

I since after the Pic wiped it off some and looks better now but still needs more cleaning. Has a skid mark on it and I think there was some stuff on top of it when I found it. I know it is older then the "60's because in the early '60's pull top cans became available.

Maybe was red and now faded IDK, but looks maroon now......I do know it is steel, a magnet stuck hard' and wont to a newer can. I'm going to clean it more and put it on my shelf. But like to know when someone ask me what it is so I can tell them the answer............

That's pretty cool. Here is the Wikipedia link that has some information.

And I haven't had time to read this one, but here is a page of history.

I think Pabst is brewing this now using the Cleveland recipe. It actually isn't that bad.

Father of a childhood friend drove a beer delivery truck. He had tons of cans in his basement. I mean tons literally. Like a whole freaking wall top to bottom. Seemingly thousands of them of all types, I think he "obtained" one of everything he delivered LOL.

I have no idea what became of that collection. It was probably worth a bazillion dollars to someone special.

When I was a boy in the mid 70's I collected beer cans. At one time I had well over 300 can's including some series cans when I got married I put them in storage in the top of the garage and forgot about them until we were clearing things out. I sold them at a garage sale for about $20. This was all before I got into brewing and I now wish I had not gotten rid of them.
