I have a side by side that I use for cold crashing, chilling the ready beers and storing hops and grains in. It has a water and ice maker function which is not hooked up to a water supply line/not in use. I raised the arm in the ice maker but I wonder if there is a switch somewhere I should have turned off. It is making a "click, pause, buzzzzzz, click, silence" set of noises that seems like something is trying unsuccessfully to run, like it wants to draw water but there is none or something.

It has been getting more frequent so I'm worried my fridge will break. It is freezing and cooling just fine but the noise has just happened three times as I have typed this.

The ice maker is still hooked up electrically...

There is no on/off switch, so you might want to hook it back up to water and return t to normal operation.

Second option is to remove it so you can unhook the connector for it. (do this with the fridge unplugged!)

That is all you do for the icemaker.

You may be hearing it click into defrost mode. Also if it has a button to stop sweating, that heats the edge around the door.

I can't hook it up to water because it is not near a line anymore. What connector (?) really don't want to pay service guy, I'm in the boonies and they nail us, if there is an on/off switch I can handle that. I am willing to unplug and remove it with guidance.

Like RickBeer said, it probably won't hurt to leave it in, except that it uses a small amount of electricity and continues to make noise while it cycles.

What s the make of the fridge?

i agree won't hurt to leave it. in answer to you other question in the below pic you can see the plug. the plug can be shaped differently but you get the idea

It is a Frigidaire and of course I can't find the paper work when I need it though I don't think that will help much since I don't have the water and ice hooked up. The noise reminds me of when it was hooked up like the same short sounds when it was getting water and or making ice, in that it is a methodical/timed sound. The worry is that it is happening more often and during both day and night.
DOH! this is gonna cost me brew money isn't it?


Okay went to post and saw yours jim but don't know what you are showing me so may need hand holding here. I'm willing to try to open this thing up but do I have tools etc.?

Look to see if there is a wire sized bar over the area where the ice goes. That wire lifts as the ice is made, and when it is full, it turns off the icemaker.... kinda like a toilet... only with ice.

If not, I would cal the manufacturer. They are good with helping out customers....

I just thought, if it doesn't have the bar, there maybe some type of infra red sensor of some sort. Something has to tell it to stop making it. Try putting an empty box in the space.....

I hear you I'm scared of all things electricity and gas. I'll probably turn the power off to the whole house if I noodle with it.
