Yesterday Jane and I went to Jamesport Farm Brewery. It was pretty quiet when we arrived, we got to chat a bit with the bartenders. People started to fill in, a young man approached me. He remembers me from a homebrew meeting a few years back. Later two families from our town came in, one couple sat with us. It turns out that her mom and mine are neighbors, and her husband played football with my brother. I also met the group next to me, one young woman is an NYPD rookie. I bought her a beer, old cop to young cop. Later the bartender bought me a beer, for being "a nice guy".
This was an unusually good time, but none of it was extraordinary. Breweries are now what I always sought in pubs: friendly people, conversation and a relaxed atmosphere. Oh yeah, good beer. There has to be beer.

Re: I Love Breweries
I know exactly what you mean. It's amazing how different a brewery pub is from just a corner bar. When you walk into a corner bar that you may not go to often, the people there stare at you as if to say.."who are you and what are you doing here in MY bar". I had this experience last week picking up a pizza for dinner. Instead of calling ahead, I thought I would just go there and sit at the bar with a beer waiting for the pie to finish. It wasn't very welcoming.
On the other hand, when you walk into a brewery pub, the people look at you and say hi to you as you walk to the bar. If your lucky enough to pull a seat at the bar, the people next to you even introduce themselves and either begin a conversation with you or bring you into the conversation they are already in with others.
Brewery pubs are so much nicer, and it's also where I would rather have a beer or two.

Wow, that sounds great. I haven't been to a bar like that since I transferred from NS Norfolk, VA. There was an Irish Pub there close to Virginia Beach that was owned by a couple from St. Louis, MO., I frequented the pub quite often. Everyone knew you or of you and it was a very welcoming place.

That's cool, John.
Chris, I agree 100%. So many conversations have been started with, "what are you drinking tonight?".

An experience to remember and cherish, for sure. Thanks for sharing.
And thanks for buying that young officer a beer. That's a stand-up guy thing to do, and I say good on ya!
