Holiday Parties and beverage choices.

Post by RandyG »

I was at a Holiday party the other evening.Plenty of good food etc.,but the drink selection left something to be desired. Red and White wine,Sparkling wine, but the beer selection was only a NEIPA that is locally brewed. Well, sorry,I'm not an IPA fan.Any more than 40 IBU's and
I'm turned off. This one was over 100 IBU's and 8+% ABV. So,not a pleasant beer for me.The thing was that it was the only beer available. No cheap,House Beer,(BMC),not even a craft beer.So I drank one and was done. That allowed my SWMBO to have an extra cocktail,b/c I took over the DD role for the evening. Anyone else run into problems like this? BTW,Happy Holidays to all of you Borgers,Borgettes, and your Families. Cheers. :D

Usually I find it the opposite at functions like that, a lot of BMC but very little craft. I like IPA's a lot but wouldn't want a imperial IPA like that in that setting, I would be full and not wanting to eat and most like way over the limit after a few. If I was there and they had mixed drinks, I would go for Captain & Coke, that is my back-up drink when not any beer I like available......And Happy Holidays to you and everyone else on the Borg also.

Yeah, I've had more experiences like Berry.
The only way to be safe is to bring some craft that you like, and homebrew if it's practical.

Never mind, there it is.

Exactly. At our family party yesterday I brought five gallons of a new Brown IPA recipe that I brewed. For get togethers like this, I shy away from anything over 6% alcohol.

There was less than two gallons left in the keg at the end of the party. Considering the amount of Cosmos, wine and BMC available, bringing my own beer made myself and other IPA drinkers there very happy.

Looking back now,I probably should have taken along a 12 pk of a Sam Adams something or other for my self. The invitation said that all drinks and food were to be supplied. Just come and have fun. If I would have taken my own beer along,(one year I took a 6er of Homebrew that I brewed and everyone shied away from it,) I would have probably only gotten 1 or 2,b/c the other non IPA drinkers would have wanted to drink my bring along brews. It was not a winning situation for me.Oh well,it's over til next year. Happy New Years to all.SWMBO and I are staying home and splitting a big jug of Aste!We will be asleep b4 the Ball comes down.
