Grain Sale?

My LHBS is moving, and having a moving sale. He's closed today, sale tomorrow. If I had to guess, he'll sell the heavy stuff: grain sacks. But I just bought a sack of grain recently, it will probably take a year to use it. Would you buy more grain if you knew it might be around a long time? He's advertising 20% off, ten or fifteen dollars per sack. I have no problems with grain I have stored for years uncrushed. Perhaps a bag of two row to complement the pilsner. What do you think?

As long as you have a good way to store it so that it's protected from the environment and from critters, it should stay good. If you have to buy some kind of storage thing that would cost more than you'd save, it wouldn't make sense, but if you have a good way to store it, I'd go for it.

I have 4 of the Vittles air tight containers and I think grain would last thru WWIII in those! I go thru a few sacks of 2 row each year and its the only grain I buy in sacks. For me, it would be worth it.

I sure would get some, grain can keep a long time. If you have some sealed plastic totes you could store it in your basement no matter how cold or damp it gets and will last quite a few years.

Can't help ya, John. I buy as-needed from my LHBS (MoreBeer).
But now I know what you need the sacks for (sorry to most, inside joke).

You gotta fold 'em pretty small for a grain bag. Of course if you have two bags...
I have a couple of vittles vaults and several buckets, as well as totes, one heavy duty.
The grain I have on hand is European pilsner, perhaps I'll buy pale. It would be cool if he's discounting 5s and 10s too. I want Munich and C20.
Thanks guys.

Bring me a bucket.

LOL, really this is probably some problem I will have in the future if I keep making lots of AG in the M&B.

So, I paid more than I had hoped. The grain sacks were only Pilsner, which I have 45# on hand, and Maris Otter, which I bought. That's more expensive, and this is NY, and this guy isn't the cheapest, but he is the closest.
Now I have 100# of base grain. :)
