Who would have thought a brewery in the Florida Keys would be #16?

Keep in mind that "fastest growing" is a relative term. A brewery that did 200 barrels in year 1 and did 600 barrels in year 2 has a 200 percent increase with 400 barrels. A brewery that goes from 10,000 to 12,000 barrels has a 20% increase but added 5 times the number of barrels.

#42 is 2 miles from my house. They started VERY small and have grown to now be just small, so it definitely grew. But they are still very small - not sure how much they will grow past where they are, which is a small shop.

Nice post. Thanks. Whether they are growing 200 barrels at a time or 2000 barrels at a time, it's nice to see that the small and independent craft brewers are growing, that's the important part!!

1940s isn't too far from here, but I haven't been. There are 15 micros in Suffolk County I think, and I haven't tried them all.

Gnarly Barley is about 50 minutes away. Went there once last summer and it was nice.....hot inside but nice. It's nice to see a company like that do well.

#35 on the list 15 minutes from me, yes they do produce some great beers, and Royal Docks is # 5 in Canton closer to 50 minutes from me., home of the Pro Football HOF, have not had their beer yet but the HBC members rave about it.

The list is definitely skewed by the percentage factor, as RickBeer pointed out.
There are four on the list from New England -- and I have heard of exactly zero of them prior to reading that list. And I consider myself fairly well-informed on local/regional breweries. :)

Still, good on them for making the dream work!

It also notes in the article that the list was drawn from a survey, not tax records or government statistics. It includes only breweries that responded. It's still a good sign of growth.

I have since visited 1940s, and was glad to. The people and beers were great.

Can't believe not a single New Jersey brewery made the 2017 list. Cape May brewing expanded their capacity a lot, bigger tap room, new larger brewhouse and wider distribution than prior years. Jughandle Brewing, Karton Brewing and Kane Brewing are three more New Jersey breweries with expansion plans in the work now. Maybe they'll make the 2018 list.

Maybe they simply didn't reply to the survey.
