I met Ron Pattinson!

Some of you might know who this is. Others might not realize who Ron Pattinson is. He is an author and brewing historian and has literally transposed hundreds of recipes from defunct 1800's London brewers into recipes that homebrewers can brew. Myself and The Professor once brewed a collaboration beer using one of the recipes from his website,
Shut Up About Barclay Perkins. It was the
William Younger No. 1 Strong Scotish Ale.
On Wednesday Night Ron Pattinson was a guest speaker at Eastern Michigan University School of Fermentation Sciences and a number of homebrewers and brewery owners were invited listen and taste some of the recreated historical beers. It was a very interesting night with some interesting historical info about the brewing technique and processes of the era.

Wish my area hosted such great brewing events. Sounds like it was an awesome experience.

A local brewery, Brewery Becker, which specializes in artisan beers, initiated this. Eastern has a 4 year fermentation program and they offered to host it in their facilities, and a brewery consultancy also sponsored it. Beers were interesting from Brewery Becker, there were also beers brewed by students in Eastern's program.
They plan on offering things like this every few months, next will be in June they said.
Due to the sponsors, there was zero charge. As you can see from Leigh's picture, it was a very healthy turnout.

I'm glad you both had an interesting beer experience.
I have Pattison's book, but have not brewed from it.

He supposedly has written dozens per one of the introductions he was given, although Amazon lists only 9. Amazing knowledge that he has in his head.
I would want him on my team for Beer Trivial Pursuit.

I did not. We were there at 5, didn't sit down till 5:45, and we were in the front row. We left after he finished speaking to catch some dinner.
I had on a
MotorCity MaltHouse shirt.

We need matching tattoos and a secret handshake.
