Thanks, everyone. Still waiting for the email with my scoresheets on this and the South Ferry Steam Beer.
As an interesting side note, here are some of my thoughts and observations:
1) There were 17 entries in this category, so placing in the top 3 is pretty darn good.
2) The gold and silver entries were not smoked ambers, so mine was the best smoked amber (okay, I don't know how many ambers were entered, so this may be kind of like being the tallest person in a roomful of midgets, but I'm just saying).
3) The gold was a Lichtenhainer, which is a smoked sour German style. Controlled infections ain't easy, and if this guy managed to clear both that hurdle and the hurdle of getting the smoke right, he deserves first place.
4) Second place was a wood-aged beer; also a rather tougher discipline than coming up with a nice recipe for an amber ale and smoking the grains in my smoker before I brewed it.
5) There was an Honorable Mention for a smoked porter, which intrigues me. Not every category had an HM. So I'm creating a story that we both scored the same, but they gave me the ribbon because Old Smokey Amber Ale is a better beer name than just Smoked Porter. Let's use our imaginations, people!
6) I must have an affinity or talent or something for ambers. My other ribbon was for Amber's Amber Lager, and my highest known competition score (albeit sans ribbon) was for my Copperbottom Lager, also an amber. This is a problem we should all have, though.

FWIW, Honorable Mention means that there were more than 3 considered for the medal aka mini bos for the category, it was the last eliminated before getting to the medal beers. It also very well could be that the Gold medal beer actually scored lower than Silver, Bronze and HM too, since the medal is not awarded for score. Just worked my 4th comp Saturday for our Clubs AHA Comp, King of The Mountain.
