Cooking With Beer

I imagine you can put beer in just about anything.

There's beer can chicken where you shove a can of beer, usually something yellow, up a chicken and bake or smoke it upright. I've found that's more about moisture than beer flavor.

Beer floats where you sub in beer for soda or milk. I think a stout goes well with most ice creams.

Chili with a stout in it. I've had that. They add it in place of that much water. It's good.

What else? Specific recipes?

Breads. Cheese soups (think cheddar, stilton). Meat stews (stout especially).

Kind of a variation on beef stews, but I use beer in the pressure cooker or crock pot when I make corned beef and cabbage.

Don't forget beer batter. We've done beer battered fried zucchini.

I always cook with beer. Sometimes I even add it to the food.

As far as beer can chicken, that's not the best way to cook a whole chicken. It doesn't add flavor or tenderness, and it may even contribute to uneven cooking and cold spots.

I used to do beer can chicken in my smoker, but after reading this article, I just smoke the bird until the internal temperature reaches 165ยบ.
