Over carbonation

Post by clay5769 »

Hi
Just opened my first batch of cider it was great but when I opened the top of each bottle it just blew like a warm bottle of cheap champagne. It had chilled for 24 hours.

I ended up releasing all the carbonation but lost about 1/2 batch .
What could be the cause? I did 1 teaspoon sugar per 16 oz bottle carbonation per instructions

P.S. cider showers suck

Thanks
Clayton

As we have mentioned before, 7 days is not long enough to ferment such a thing and I believe you fermented that for 7 days according the directions (which are not good). So it was likely not done fermenting before you bottled it. So not only did the bottling sugar carbonate the bottle, but also the remaining fermentation added even more carbonation to the bottles.

This will also lead to potential bottle bombs. No fun are they.

Ferment 14 full days at least right now until you are *certain* that less time is ok.

Got it.... :clink: I'll always do 14 days fermentation. I've been doing all the beer so far 14 day's 7 days carbonation

The cider did taste good but most ended in my hair and shirt...
Thanks
