Take a minute to introduce yourself to the Borg and tell us what's brewing. You can ask questions here too!

Steam Juiced Fruit Flavors for brewing

Post by rgbrew2 »

Question: We had a bumper crop of fruits this year such as the normal Blueberries , Raspberries and Strawberries but we also have Black Currents, Red currents, Eldeberry and Grape; instead of freezing all of these in vaccuum sealed bags we chose to "Steam Juice" a major portion of the crop.
This resulted in a lot of 2 cup bags of just a concentrated fruit juice with all of the flavor but no plup and little sediment.
The question I have is this : Can we use these fruit juices to flavor either a hard cider , Seltzer or Craft beer instead of using a 16oz can of fruit in syrup which comes with some of the kits?

I sure would like to try the Black Current in a batch or two due to its deep color and rich taste. Or even some Raspberry with a Wheat Ale... YUM

Thank you ,

Yes, you can. The fruit in syrup will add more sugars though as well, so they will increase your ABV more than just your juice would. You would have to add some sugar or dextrose (say maybe 8oz) to get something more similar.
