Another one bites the dust

I brewed my Ottertoberfest this morning. I love having this lager all summer long, and then tapping it when Oktoberfest opens.

But today, it came with a price. As I was washing up afterwards, the cutting board that we keep leaning up against the wall next to the sink crashed over, right on my hydrometer. Needless to say, that poor piece of equipment is no more. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, hydrometer.

Fortunately, I have a spare, so other than mourning a hydrometer I'd had for several years, there's no real tragedy here. I just need to remember to order another one when I place an order next time, and that probably won't be for a month or more. I have two full kegs, one of which I haven't even tapped yet.

Oh, the humanity! :(

After 2 or 3 such faux tragedies, I switched to a plastic hydrometer and have had many shard-free years ever since. Worth considering, IMO.

I swear hydrometers travel in packs and can sense when they're alone. When that happens, they become distressed and commit suicide.
