Good ole days!
What beer brings back memories of the good ole days?
I went to a different liquor store on my way home tonight to grab some wine for the wife and maybe some beer. I got Yingling Octoberfest. And when I turned around there was "Old Milwaukee ". I haven't seen that in a long time. It brought me back to high school playing poker with the guys. I couldn't resist , I grab a warm sixer in those 16ozs. ,cans.

Old Mil.... it's what a bud of mine drinks exclusively. I had one the other night because I was wore out and a long ways from home. Took me back to the days I did not know what real beer was. (13-14 yrs old.. LOL)

I love my craft brew. But my friend still drinks coors light on his keg. Hes my brother by marrriage who Ive known forever. Id rather spend my time bonding with(and he tries to keep a case of something) for me. I still drink bad beer occasionally, I can live with it.

Heh heh heh.....I have an "Old Milwaukee" pitcher and pilsner glass set sitting atop my fermentation cabinet.
I remember back to my college days....we could swing by the corner convenience store where you could purchase a gallon of draft beer in recycled milk jugs. Many a time when a few of us would pool up our change to buy a gallon. Then we'd just pass the jug around. "Glasses? We don't need no stinkin glasses."
You could also pick up a six pack of Schaefer beer for $1.25 Swore I'd never drink Schaefer even again. No no no.

Sheonling Little Kings
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."
Edgar Allan Poe

Re: Good ole days!
A year or so ago, at bowling league, I decided to have a Miller Genuine Draft. I honestly didn't think it was that bad, and while I preferred it when I was learning to drink, it would never be my first choice anymore. But two things struck me. After my first taste, I told my brother it tasted like High School.
And later, I realized it made me nostalgic for my Uncle Tommy. Neither of my parents drink, nor do many of their friends. But Tommy drank beer (I don't know what kind specifically, but close enough to BMC to pinch hit). And the aroma of his beer was something distinctive to me as a kid.

When I was a high-school lad we drink Cheap beer made by Anybody. That included Old Mil' (we called it Old Tennis Shoe), Milwaukee's Best, Blatz and Schlitz.
As I got older, a little more monied and a teensy-weensy bit wiser I drank Schmidt beer. (Not Schmidts beer which is still available and is as nasty as a beer can be.) The Schmidt "Big Mouth" bottle was a favorite for many years.

Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

I didn't actually start out drinking cheap beer because the beer people drank when I was in high school tasted pretty gross and gave me record breaking burps. They usually drank Budweiser or Natural Ice.
I did learn a couple of summers ago while helping a friend work on his house that MGD or Corona actually aren't offensively tasting and do work as a nice refreshment when you finish doing exterior house repairs on a 99f degree day. The Bud Light that was there still turned my stomach and something about the flavor just does not do it for me.
But Last weekend on my way to a party I stopped a cool party store called Big Ten Party store. Not sure what it is about Big Ten Party stores but everyone I have been into you expect to see a giant selection of the cheap stuff for college students, and yet when you get inside they have huge selection of craft beer and all sorts of fancy liquors. But back to the point there was a woman smoking a Black and Mild outside the store. It brought back all the memories of the crazy field parties we had when I was in high school. It made me bust out the old school Eminem and Kid Rock from before they had big record contracts and most people outside of the Detroit area had no idea who they were. It was funny people at the party kept asking how I got Eminem's new record before it came out.
