Not Just Another Homebrew Book
It seem like every time I look there is another home brew book available explaining how to brew beer. Many of these books are simply a re-hash of the many brewing styles and methods that home brewers can use to create our favorite alcoholic beverages. Granted it’s hard to really find new content to write a home brew book about and keep it fresh when the basic process for brewing has remained the same for centuries.

A Homebrewer’s Journey
What started out as an experiment with a 3 quart pot, a can of extract and a little brown keg has evolved today into something I wasn’t even able to imagine back then. The home brew community played a major role in my progression from ‘newbie’ to a brewer having some serious skills.

So, you want to start brewing your own beer?
For years I had always thought about how cool it would be to brew my own beer. To be able to reach into the refrigerator and grab a bottle of beer hand it to a friend or relative and say, “try this, I made it” and watch their faces as they take the first sips of the wonderful elixir that I created. But I always seemed to have something else to do, I was always “too busy” working or raising my family to get into brewing! The fact was I was afraid to start something that was either too complicated and/or too expensive and have it turn out like crap. Ahh, if I only knew then what I know now I could have been brewing beer and enjoying the hobby of brewing a lot sooner.

Dr. Frankenbeer, I presume
Being a new brewer is exciting. You open the box, and there’s this fermenter, and cans of extract, and instructions, and you can make beer! I got my start with a Mr. Beer kit my wife got me for Christmas. I was as excited as a ten-year-old getting a puppy, and I couldn’t wait to brew my first batch. I would have creative control of the beer I drank. There were so many possibilities now; so much potential for creating custom beers right in my own kitchen.
