Re: RCE Winter 2015: dwaynebutcher & lindseywinstead

I finally brewed my version yesterday afternoon. It had been a while since last I indulged in a Mr. Beer-based recipe. It was fast and went quite smoothly. I hit my anticipated O.G. (1.054), cooled quickly, and pitched a pack of Safbrew WB-06, which is happily munching away this morning.

Nothing stopping you from getting your own wheat yeast...I think it'd be a right interesting cerveza. We decided to stick with our original intentions. The more I think about it, the more excited I get about using a wheat yeast with this recipe. I have a feeling that it will be a “right interesting...

Re: Peanut Butter Powder

I bought some PB2 a while back to use for brewing, but I've never done anything with it. Sadly, I have done the same. Most of my reference material is from HBT as well. There is some discussion over at Beer Advocate, which may be worth perusing. [ http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/anyon...

Wheat yeast is not required for this recipe. I'm pretty sure that's a typo and I appreciate you bringing it to our attention. It will be fixed promptly... This recipe has been updated with the yeast fix. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. In a classic example of "everyone makes m...

Re: Clear or Amber or White

Main reason I prefer the bucket is the ease of cleaning. Agreed. I have multiple LBKs, a blue translucent plastic carboy, and a few classic white buckets. My favorite is the bucket. Easy to store, as they stack inside one another; easy to clean; inexpensive; and can be had in a wide variety of size...

Re: Recipe: Pale Ale and Baby Kale Creamy Pesto

I see you used pecans instead of pine nuts. I had it in my head that if it wasn't pine nuts and basil it wasn't pesto. I love pine nuts and wish I could find a fresher and less expensive source for them than the chain grocers. The original recipe called for pecans. I think that it would be even bet...

Recipe: Pale Ale and Baby Kale Creamy Pesto

I love pasta. [/i] Not exactly a groundbreaking confession, but true. I adore Italian fare, and a well-made pasta and sauce is difficult to beat. I admit that a classic pesto is one of my favorites, and the current trend to make "pesto" out of things other than basil, just because they ar...

U.S. Tettnang vs. German Tettnang: Is There a Difference?

In gathering the necessities for the Winter 2015 RCE, I recently ordered some German Tettnang hops. When the order arrived, despite the invoice listing German Tettnang, the actual bag of hops was clearly labeled U.S. Tettnang. A quick e-mail to the online retailer yielded a fast apology and a full r...

Re: Happy Valentines!

LOML gifted me, among other things, a gin kit, with all the lovely items necessary to make a compound gin. We both enjoy a variety of infused spirits, so this will be a wonderful gift for the both of us. I am roasting a whole duck for dinner, accompanied by roasted carrots, asparagus, and scratch-ma...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling?

Just bottled 5 gallons of a Jalapeño Pale Ale. It was an attempt to clone a local brewery's magnificent version (Birdsong Brewing Jalapeno Pale Ale). The hydro sample was outstanding. Fingers crossed that it tastes just as good, or better, after a few weeks of conditioning... http://i1174.photobucke...

That doesn't mean they will be bad, they will likely be very tasty - I've made Dampfbier a handful of times and liked it a lot. Just giving you some style tips of what it may end up "more like". Thank you for the info! The amber cerveza/Vienna lager was just my guess at Mr. Beer's intenti...

RCE Winter 2015: dwaynebutcher & lindseywinstead

dwaynebutcher and I have wasted no time in diving headfirst into our collaboration. We have chosen to experiment a bit with Mr. Beer's Noche de Luna recipe [ http://www.mrbeer.com/noche-de-luna-recipe ]. It is a modification of their Aztec Mexican Cerveza HME. From the way it is described, I am thi...

Re: Yeah, I'd try it.

I would try it! Despite the reviews... From http://www.drinkspirits.com/vodka/hophead/ Hophead Vodka (90 Proof / 45% ABV, $29.95) is not a flavored vodka – it gets its hops flavor and aroma from hops which are macerated in neutral grain spirits before being distilled, in very much the same way as yo...
