Aliens attack! Get your own mothership now!

Post by russki »

Anyone interested in a low-cost conical fermenter? Well, now there's a viable option. FastRack is taking pre-orders for the FastFerment 7-gallon plastic conical, formerly known as the V-Vessel, or as our own Nong calls it, THE ALIEN.

Here's the linky: http://www.thefastrack.ca/main/fastferment

At only $90 shipped, these look very appealing. They do need to be wall-mounted, but it would be pretty simple to build a stand out of some 2x4s and plywood...

If I could figure out how the hell to get the beer from where I brew it into that thing where I ferment at I might be tempted. I would need to drill a hole through my floor and run a racking tube down into the basement or something. Wonder what SWMBO would think of that idea LOL.

Pretty neat looking, but they never show you how they clean it, and if you watch a video you see the guy takes the full ball off and can't figure out where to put it - and in the background you hear drip, drip as the stuff in the valve drips on his floor.

Since it can't stand on it's own, when it's empty how would one easily wash and drain it? And when it's on the wall, I'd be worried about pouring wort into it, the ability to aerate, etc. But once it's fermenting, it would be cool.

Yup, appears to be too gimicky. The yeast harvesting ball would be cool - if it were a square and you could set it down after you pull it off. The wall mounted fermenter would be cool - if it had a stand and you could put it someplace convenient, in a chamber for temperature control, or in the pantry during warm months for ales and cool months for lagers. It looks different for different's sake which isn't necessarily a good thing. I will stick to my buckets and carboys (and bottle tree) thank you very much.

Are you planning on putting a valve on to dump the trub? That would certainly grab my attention.
