Co2 vs Nitrogen vs Beer Gas

OK, so educate me on the needs for CO2 vs Nitrogen and can I just use Beer Gas for all my beers? Praxair has all three and that’s the only gas supply facility in my area.

I think N is just used for Stouts and requires it’s own regulator. I might brew some Stouts in the future, but really don’t want to have C02 and N tanks as well as the appropriate regulators. Can I use Beer Gas (I think they have an 80/20 N:CO2mix) for all beers and be fine? Can you tell me what type of regulator I would need if I chose Beer Gas?

No beer is served on 100% nitrogen.

"Beer gas" is simply a pre-mixed blend of 25% CO2 and 75% nitrogen. This allows one to not have to have a special regulator to blend the two for a nitro beer. Commonly called "Guinness Blend".

No, you cannot use beer gas to dispense all your beers. Your beer will go flat.

To serve on "nitro" you need to carbonate the beer as you normally would with CO2, then push thru a stout faucet with either beer gas or nitrogen. Stout faucets have a restrictor for getting that creamy head.

I've never used anything other than co2. I know the pour for a stout aren't quite right, but I'm too cheap to get the nitro.
