My New System Robobrew
The wife gave $500 in a birthday card yesterday of her own money she has saved from doing her crafts to buy this new brewing system. My birthday was yesterday and she was going to order it earlier and have it delivered in time for my birthday but was scared she would order the wrong one or not know what else I might need with it. What an amazing wife, she has heard me talk a lot about going this route with my brewing. I'll have it later in the week just in time to try and brew next weekend. I feel bad excepting her money, she is a stay home mom but does a lot with our kids and what they are involved in. I could buy this on my own but the idea of her actually buying me something with her own money almost teared me up. I tried to tell her it's not necessary and I could buy it with our regular money but she insists. I tend to spoil her and I think she is just trying to return the love. I'll also mention she is a big fan of my beer, the hobby and is always very supportive.
So here is what I'll be brewing on from here on out.

Re: My New System Robobrew
First, a very Happy Birthday too ya!
Second, you married way up dude! I've seen lots of youtube vids on this and similar systems and while it's not my cup of tea, it does make great beer and everyone who has one loves it. I would definitely a few folks on youtube and save some learning curves by watching their videos. If I see one, I'll post it here but look up Short Circuited Brewers and The Homebrew Network (New Zealand dude I think) though I'm sure you did your research.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! Lucky bum you are!

Thanks man, yes I have done some research and watched several of those videos as well. Keg King has a few of their own where they really break down the features and upgrades they have made. I went with this one over the less expensive Mash and Boil because of the capacity. With 9.25 gals I can now go no sparge, where as with the other similar systems I could not. I am also only going to use this as a temp controlled recirculating mash tun, I am going to boil separately in my normal kettle. I wanted this upgrade for a few reasons but one being the ability to do step mashes and going no sparge. It can help save time, less transfers and better beer because of it. I think it will be a great balance of getting to do what I want but keeping everything simple and contained to an all in one unit. I did a HERMS set up for a while but it got to be cumbersome and actually more time consuming. This should really help streamline the process. I ferment and serve in the same corny keg so getting the clearest wort into the fermenter to start is another goal with this system. Eventually I plan to get something like the plain Mash and Boil or the Digiboil from the same makers as this Robobrew so I can be full electric with my brewing. One thing at a time to get a feel for, and as you said a learning curve. It has gotten good reviews, man I am looking forward to giving it a go. I'll be sure to report back.

Good deal and great to have a supportive wife, a very nice gift. Keep us informed when you start brewing with that unit, I would have really thought about one if were available when I bought the M&b. Oh and Happy Birthday.

I think you'll like it. I got the mash and boil on sale and like it, but the extra capacity would be nice.
Keep us posted.

Way cool. We love shiny brew toys and great wives.

Never mind, there it is.

It is shiny and it makes beer. What's not to love about that!

Hope you enjoy brewing with it.
Re: My New System Robobrew
Had to give it a little test run to get a feel for it. I added 3 gals of water to check the water markings, spot on. Ran the pump and set it to boil temps. Verified temperature readings along the way, also spot on. So far so good. I'll be going no sparge with this system and transfering to my regular boil kettle to boil normal for now. Can't wait to give it a full go this weekend. I had some time to get things set up a bit at the new house. I'm liking the look of things so far.

I'm glad you've adjusted your priorities. Let us know how it goes this weekend. What's the first brew gonna be?

The wife gets her favorite beer out of the first batch. She deserves it. I'll be making my Chocolate Coffee Porter. I usually brew her a batch around her Bday and that was in January and I haven't brewed since before Thanksgiving. But I am considering doing a 2nd batch right after that, a double brew day. This way I can get some beers on tap asap and also get what I want. What the 2nd one will be this weekend, not sure. Something hoppy, Pale Ale or Amber Ale maybe.Beer-lord wrote:I'm glad you've adjusted your priorities. Let us know how it goes this weekend. What's the first brew gonna be?

Way to go, jump right back in full swing. Will you do a constant recirc? I don't with the M&B but a lot do. I run the pump 4 or 5 times during the mash.MadBrewer wrote: But I am considering doing a 2nd batch right after that, a double brew day. Yes I will run the pump continuously for the mash to help maintain the correct temps and keep the mash consistent, otherwise I can see scorching the liquid under the false bottom that is sitting above the heat elements.
