Eight years ago today...

Post by LouieMacGoo »

I brewed my first beer ever. It was a Mr Beer Golden lager. I remember taking it to a family party and coming back with empty bottles. It wasn't the best beer I ever had but it tasted pretty damn good since I brewed it myself. Image

Very cool! In a few weeks it will be seven years for me. My first couple of brews were only okay, but I think I've improved!

I got all of y'all beat. I was brewing in 1978 though not nonstop. But this is still pretty cool that you remember so much about your first brew. I made some very below average beers for awhile but had I been able to buy the fresh ingredients of today, I would have made it to heaven earlier.
Here's to many more years of fun.

Thanks for posting this. It reminded me to check my records, and it turns out my "nine year anniversary" will be this Sunday (Jan 5, 2011). Mr. Beer West Coast Pale Ale with Booster and 12 oz of honey. I cracked open the first bottle just before kickoff of the Super Bowl (Feb 6, 2011).
It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad, and more importantly, it got me hooked on the process. Nine years later, I've come a long way in the hobby and my beers have improved dramatically. And some of you that populated the Mr. Beer forum back in 2011 deserve some of the credit for that.
:thanks: :clink:

I started brewing in 2006...14 years ago. I still brew. I still enjoy the zen of it all. I just hope y'all have as much fun with it as I did/do.

I've been brewing since the late 80s. but there was a 10 year or so hiatus, so 20 something years of actual brewing.

I'm gonna say eleven years for me. Pretty sure that's accurate. Anyway, the first batch was a Mr. Beer Whispering Wheat. Also far from the best beer I've ever made, but the delight over the fact that I actually had done it got me hooked.

I was going to correct you because you started shortly after I did, but I rechecked my notes, and I'll be at 11 years in May, not 10.

Happy somewhat of a belated New Year all!

My brewing notes say it's been ten years since brewing my first Mr. Beer recipe. It was their West Coast Pale Ale extract recipe.
  • Fermentation: 23-Jan-2010 to 13-Feb-2010 - (68-76F)
  • Carbonation : 13-Feb-2010 to 27-Feb-2010 - (68-76F)
  • Conditioning: none
Judging from my brewing notes I couldn't wait to drink them either. This time of year is perfect for looking back at our brewing adventures. It's a great feeling knowing that many of the original Mr. Beer Forum members are Beer Borg Forum members today.

To all of my Borg friends, I wish you a safe, enjoyable and prosperous 2020 brewing season and beyond!

I brewed my first batch with a Mr B kit the end of 2009 but didn't get serious until around Nov.-Dec. 2010 when ordered more refills and found and joined the old MB forum. I guess that would be 11 years, but helped my Dad make a lot of wine and apple cider years earlier.
