Two burners really works well

Post by RickBeer »

I have a 5 gallon pot that I use for 5 gallon extract recipes, i.e. it ends up with 3 to 3.5 gallons in it. I struggle getting it to boil and holding it. I've seen posts where people talk about using two stove burners, but my pot isn't big enough, or so I thought.

Yesterday when I did a White House Honey Porter recipe, as usual my rolling boil was barely. And, with a fan running, it seemed to be on the edge of not boiling. So, I moved the pot to straddle two burners which put 75% of one flame on the pot and about 50% of the other. Viola! Boiling steadily. I will do this on all future batches. Thanks for those that articulated this idea!

Rick that is how I do 10 gallons batches on my stove. By using the 2 burners you are going to find a lot of new ways to play.

Has anyone tried this with electric? I'm wary, as I have a glasstop. I'm trying to find a good kettle that will nearly fit one burner. The one I ordered before fails.
