Hello All, and thanks for what seems to be a great forum.
I am a total newb brewer and hope to do my first one gallon batch this weekend. I purchased bucket style kits. Are the Mr. Beer and Brew Demon the main fermentors used by brewers on this site? The Brew Demon looks like a possible upgrade from one gallon. I also noticed a member linking to a 2.5 gallon liquid dispenser from wal mart, is that a possible fermentor with spigot as well?
Thanks ahead.

Welcome to the forum wollffy. You'll find that there is a wide array of what is used for fermenters here. From the Mr Beer keg and the Brew Demon conical, to 5 gallon glass carboys and plastic buckets. As for the 2.5 gallon dispenser from wallly world, If I am guessing the one you are referring to is clear. If that's the case, it really shouldn't be used unless you can keep it in a really dark room. The fermentors should keep as much (if not all) light out as possible.
Again, welcome!!!

Welcome, the duck pretty much covered the gauntlet of fermenters used around here. Many people use the 2.5 gallon slimline as a batch priming container and bottle out of it.
To expand on what BlackDuck said the other thing about the Wal mart container is that it's exactly the best quality or quality control so the risk of losing your presious beer that you spent weeks waiting for to ferment is much higher due to leaks and plastic failure then with the plastic containers that are actually made for fermenting!
Just curious what brew kit are you using now and how did you decide on that one?

Hi Thanks,
I purchased a 1 galllon kit from the american hombrewer. I thought it was a great price for what was included. I also just read that the walmart container would help in bottling, but I will have a bottling bucket already. I am just curious as to which is more efficient or productive if those terms fit, 1 or 2.5 gallon brewing. what do you reccommend?
Thanks, AB

No I don't. Those recipes are 5 gallon all grain batches that ferment in a 6.5 gallon palstic bucket as the fermentor.
EDIT....I should add that all of the recipes could easily be scaled down and fermented in a brew demon conical though.

Make sure and visit the basic brewing and recipe threads when you have time as there are many that have the kind of info on fermenters and equipment you will be interested in.
What are you planning on brewing this weekend? Was it a recipe that came with your 1 gallon setup?
