Wish me luck
Taking a trip into NYC today to turn in my entries for Homebrew Alley VIII.
Pearly Pils and Bit O' Bitter are my offerings. They are both tasty beers. Whether they're good examples of German Pilsner and Ordinary Bitter is what I'll find out. Judging to take place the first Saturday in February.
Wish me luck.

Good Luck Dave! Let us know the results.
Re: Wish me luck
Good luck Dave, hope they score well. One of the best feed back notes on one of my score sheets said "well brewed beer, no discernible off flavors". That alone let me know that my process was solid.

Yes, that kind of feedback is invaluable. I was extremely gratified last year when one of the judges finished his comments with "Nice job!" He didn't have to write that, but he did. "Nice job!" is GREAT feed back to get on a score sheet. That will make you smile for sure!FedoraDave wrote:Yes, that kind of feedback is invaluable. I helped as a steward for a competition last year. One brewer had made a IIPA aged on Spanish Cedar, (I know doesn't sound too appealing) but OMG, the judges allowed me to try it, because it was that good. The base IIPA was wonderful to start with and the cedar was done just right. The judge put a lot of personal notes on the score sheet and ask if the brewer would share his recipe and process, leaving his email and phone # on the sheet. That brewer is probably still smiling.

Best of luck to ya', Dave. Not only with the home-brew competition - we all know you're going to do real good on that end - but also with the trip to the Big City. You are a brave, brave man.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

Good luck, Dave
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."
