Re: Pliny the Elder
Not his style???....out the door with him. Tell him to start training those taste buds and not to come back until he can drink an IPA.
Paul...you can give yourself some more credit than that. Your brews are righteous, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise....including yourself!!!!
EDIT.....by the way, i'm one week down in the conditioning phase of my Pliny.

Re: Pliny the Elder
Brew day went perfect. Temp was 39 when I started, 53 when I ended and it's now 62 and back on the way down. Perfect day for brewing. I love no rush brew days and when you add a 90 minute boil, you just have more time to relax, read, take care of things while the boil is going.
My wife already has the bread machine going and I'll get some fresh, homemade beer bread to go with a beer in 15 more minutes.

Hell, why don't the three of us agree on a place in the US to live, open "Three Amigos Brewery" and go from there. Ron can join, because as in the "Three Musketeers", there were actually four.

That's a hell of an idea....Ron, with is newfound writing skills, can write the descriptions on the menu.Inkleg wrote:Hell, why don't the three of us agree on a place in the US to live, open "Three Amigos Brewery" and go from there. Re: Pliny the Elder
I just need a few weeks notice, a small, padded room and I'm on the way.

I'm loving this idea, especially where in the end you get a kind of home brewing romance novel out of Kealia.

Re: Pliny the Elder
Lets see, it won't be in a place below sea level (sorry Paul), won't be in a place that freezes (sorry Chris), won't be in a 3 tier system state (sorry me), Ron you're about to have beach side property on both sides (so that won't work). BB what can you offer.

Re: Pliny the Elder
One thing I know for sure is that the morning after you brew a Pliny, the air around the fermenter is singing with hop love! "We hold these truths to be self-evident" that all hops ARE NOT EQUAL!

Re: Pliny the Elder
I can hear your wife now "Well I just came home and found him passed out with his head in the fermentation bag".
"Yes ma'am we've seen this before. It's hops overdose or hopsadose as we call it in the business. We have to ask. Was there any indication that he was heading down this path?"

Don't look here we're trying to get out as soon as possible before the lake dries up.Inkleg wrote:Lets see, it won't be in a place below sea level (sorry Paul), won't be in a place that freezes (sorry Chris), won't be in a 3 tier system state (sorry me), Ron you're about to have beach side property on both sides (so that won't work). When I find a location with Burton Water like qualities maybe I'll convince guys to open it there, then I'll get to drink unlimited supplies of Three Amigos while reading my personally autographed copy of a best selling brewmance novel.

Re: Pliny the Elder
LOL, these last posts have made me laugh, but I'm in!
Paul, congrats on what sounds like a great brew day. Like Chris said, stop beating yourself up because you make damn good beer, sir.

Re: Pliny the Elder
Did the first dry hop tonite and was glad to find out 2 things. First, my gravity after 8 days is 1.016 with a projected 1.014 so I'm happy with that. Next, and I need to put this in caps, THERE ARE NO FUSELS! Yea for Paul.
Taste was just so-so but as I'm basing this on Jeff and Chris' versions, I just want it to be drinkable.
I'll likely add more than the 3/4 oz of second dry hops because I don't feel that's enough.
